Many residents in a retirement home setting require blood tests or ECG's as ordered by their doctor.
Many people are unable to get to a lab for various reasons and require the specimens to be collected in the home. OHIP does not pay for the collection of specimens but just the testing of specimens.
Robertson Brown Health Services provides a blood collection service for over 28 nursing and retirement homes in Kitchener Waterloo, Cambridge and Guelph. We employ lab technicians who visit the residents in their retirement home, collect the blood samples and take them to the lab for testing. The results are sent to their doctor. We are able to provide this service at considerable savings to the resident. Lab technicians are also able to perform ECG's as ordered in the resident's room.
